OUR STORY

ABOUT US

The founding members of the Remsen Performing and Visual Arts Center set out with a goal to create a place for our community to join together and celebrate the arts. The small group banded together to form a committee to make it a reality in 2010. The board selected the abandoned tormer Baptist church building on Main St. to be the home of the Remsen Performing and Visual Arts Center.

Many volunteers and much TLC converted the historic building into a wonderful venue. They have preserved the historical integrity of the historic 1893 building while creating a welcome place for modern use. Because of them, the RPVAC is now a beautiful, functional, and fully handicap accessible facility!

Since opening the doors to the public in 2011 the Remsen Arts Center has hosted numerous concerts, art shows, workshops, plus offers a facility for meetings, weddings, and much more. We strive to support young and emerging talent and keep the arts relevant in our community. We work to offer a variety of events that not only showcase local and regional talent but also provide our community a place to gather. People visit the arts center to enjoy performances and art then come to appreciate the historical beauty of our circa 1893 building. We offer all events in a family friendly environment.

The center provides opportunities for artists and musicians to study, display their art work, and to perform in a supportive setting. The buildings great acoustics lured musicians into using it for recording sessions. Everyone is welcome to use our building for special occasions.

The Remsen Arts Center offers a variety of music events, art programs, and workshops. Some of these events and programs include our annual three day Remsen Arts Fest featuring artwork for sale, musical entertainment, children’s activities, artist demonstrations, and more. Arts Fest weekend encourages artists, photographers, and entertainers of all skill and age levels to participate.

The Annual Concert Series features 8-15 live stage musical performances. Presenting a wide variety of pop, rock, classical, jazz, and more by groups, solo pianists and performers. The Annual Model Railroad Show features train layouts, sales, videos, and educational material. Annual Talent Show allows any and all types of talent to perform on our stage. Christmas in the Village Weekend is a free community event featuring the community band & choir, tree lighting, and family sing-along. We have also featured films and brought in experts to educate the public on a variety of topics.

During the annual Remsen Barn Festival of the Arts, an arts festival that uses our Main Street to host booth venders welcoming 25,000 visitors, we open our doors and allow the Snow Country Quilt Guild to showcase their quilts in our building. We also let community organizations, such as the Barn Festival Committee and Quilters the use our building for meetings and events. In the past we have partnered with the Adirondack Scenic Railroad, Remsen Depot, Remsen and Holland Patent School districts, Wholesome Living, Arcadian Acres, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, Soda Fountain Restaurant, and children’s summer musical programs.
